Stillwater
Stillwater calls itself the "birthplace of Minnesota": an 1848 territorial convention that helped create the state met here, five years after the Stillwater Lumber Company was founded on the St. Croix River in 1843. Eleven blocks of Main Street sit inside the National Register-listed Stillwater Commercial Historic District (63 buildings dating from the 1860s to 1940), where exterior work on downtown buildings, roofs included, goes through the city's Heritage Preservation Commission design review. This corridor sees hail from the same summer storm lines that cross the east metro toward the St. Croix River. NOAA storm reports show 3-inch hail near our Rush City job site on June 29, 2015, the largest hail anywhere in this coverage area, and 2-inch hail near Stillwater and Landfall on May 19, 2022. A wind gust of 81 mph was measured near Rush City on July 19, 2019, and Landfall, Wyoming and Stacy all logged fresh 1-inch-plus hail again in June 2026. Hail that size bruises shingles and dents vents, gutters and coping even when a roof looks fine from the driveway.

The City of Stillwater issues its own building permits, and downtown roof work on Main Street buildings also needs Heritage Preservation Commission design review before the permit is issued.
