When storms last hit Rosemount
Rosemount sits east of Highway 52 in a part of Dakota County that gets hit by the same summer storm lines that cross the southern metro. NOAA storm reports logged 1.25" hail near our Rosemount job sites on August 15, 2025, and 1.75" hail on July 3, 2023 — the largest we have on record here since 2015. A downed power line and tree damage report came in near Rosemount on July 28, 2025. Around Rosemount
Rosemount organized as one of Dakota County's first 17 townships in 1858, the same year Minnesota became a state, and Irish settlers picked the name to honor a village back in Ireland. The city didn't fully merge village and township until 1974. Today Rosemount is still shaped by the University of Minnesota's UMore Park land on its east side — a former WWII gunpowder plant site the university bought in 1947–48 that's now slated for a new school and future development — and by the Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery, the city's largest private employer since it opened in 1955.
